WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today praised House passage of legislation to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act:
“We are fortunate enough to live in a country founded on democratic principles that provide our citizens with equal opportunity to make their voices heard through the right to vote.  The Voting Rights Act has been an effective tool in protecting a right that is fundamental to our democracy and renewing this landmark law will ensure that each and every citizen can continue to exercise their right to vote without the threat of intimidation of harassment.  I would like to thank Chairman Sensenbrenner for his efforts on this important bill, along with all of my colleagues who participated in today’s debate.  We all strongly support the right of every citizen to vote in our great country.”
