Boehner Statement on Proposed Reform Package |
WASHINGTON, D.C. House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on the proposed lobbying reform package outlined by Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier (R-CA) at this morning’s meeting of the House Republican Conference:

"We must restore the trust between the American people and their government. The package Chairman Dreier outlined this morning is an important first step in changing the way Congress does business.

"I’m pleased that the proposal includes institutional reforms that bring greater transparency and accountability to the processes governing lobbying disclosure and congressional spending. Such changes are essential to changing the culture of Washington and they’ll complement the progress House Appropriations Committee Chairman Jerry Lewis (R-CA) has already made in reducing the amount of taxpayer money being spent on earmarks.

"Speaker Hastert and Chairman Dreier deserve great credit for their leadership on this lobbying reform project. They have taken pains to construct a collaborative process, with a lot of input and give and take among members about how to best implement reforms. The process has taken a positive step forward today, and I hope congressional Democrats will join with us in moving to enact these reforms."
