House Backs Stronger Security Ties With Jordan to Counter ISIL | Speaker.gov

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the House passed the United States-Jordan Defense Cooperation Act (H.R. 907), which expedites arms transfers to Jordan:

“Jordan is a stabilizing force in the Middle East, and making sure it can take the fight to ISIL is vital to America’s national security interests.  This will also strengthen our ties with King Abdullah, a good friend and solid partner in the region.  If the president does finally put forward a broad, overarching strategy to defeat the terrorist threat, supporting our allies should be a big part of it.”

NOTE: Speaker Boehner visited Jordan in March to meet with His Majesty King Abdullah II and government officials for talks focused on ISIL and Iranian-backed violence in the region.
