House-Passed Bill REINS in Red Tape Stalling Economic Growth & Costing Jobs |

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today applauded House passage of the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act (H.R. 367), requiring an up-or-down vote in Congress on any major new regulation with an economic cost of $100 million or more:

“From the president’s health care law to his war on affordable energy, the excessive red tape coming out of this administration is costing our economy billions and making it harder for small businesses to create jobs.  The REINS Act holds the president and his administration accountable by giving the people’s representatives an up-or-down vote on the most costly new regulations.  It’s a key part of the Republican Plan for Economic Growth & Jobs, and honors the pledge we made to rein in government overreach that’s contributing to the ‘new normal’ of high unemployment, slow growth, and stagnant wages.  I urge the Democratic-led Senate to take up this bill immediately, and prevent a bureaucracy run amok in Washington from running our economy even further into the ground.”
