WASHINGTON, DC - House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement commending House passage of the Preventing Government Waste & Protecting Coal Mining Jobs in America Act (H.R. 2824) sponsored by Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH):

“The Obama administration has spent millions of taxpayer dollars on a plan to shut down coal-fired energy, destroy jobs, and drive costs up even further.  It is precisely the kind of misguided policy that has left middle class families struggling in the Obama economy, and prevented us from utilizing all sources of energy to help fuel economic growth, revitalize manufacturing, and get America working.  This bill sends a message to the Obama administration that the American people won’t tolerate this war on coal, much less fund it.  If the president is serious about supporting Republicans’ all-of-the-above energy policy, he’ll stop the regulatory assault on American energy and call on Senate Democrats to pass this pro-growth jobs bill.”
