WASHINGTON—House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) issued the following statement on Senate passage of S. 139, the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act of 2017:
“This vote is a victory in our fight against terrorism. That is why this legislation gives our intelligence community the tools it needs to target foreign terrorists on foreign soil. The 702 program has already saved countless lives by preventing numerous planned attacks on our homeland, including a 2009 plot on the New York City subway system. This measure also features important reforms to strengthen privacy protections for U.S. citizens. I look forward to sending this critical bill to the president’s desk in short order."
