WASHINGTON, DC – House and Senate leaders today welcomed to the Capitol hundreds of wounded warriors who are participating in the annual Department of Defense Warrior Games.  The Games feature eight sporting events with approximately 250 athletes representing teams from the branches of our military.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) applauded the athletes and their families for their service and devotion:

“Good afternoon everyone, and let me just welcome all of you to the United States Capitol.  I’m joined today by the leaders of the House, the Senate, and our Armed Services & Veterans Affairs Committees.  It’s good to see General Dempsey here.  You can tell he’s proud that the Army still has a firm grip on the Chairman’s Cup.  Of course, it’s not over yet.  The best teams, of course, have the best fans, so we want to recognize all the families here today.

“Now, my understanding is that this is your off day.   And we’re honored you would spend it here at the Capitol.  You know, people come from around the world to see all these statues and this history.  But today, we have with us living proof of what it means to be an American.  Because you show the world what is possible.  You show the world what the human spirit can achieve, no matter the odds or the cost.  You are our best, our toughest, and you make us proud.

“So congratulations, God bless you all, and God bless America.”
