Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of S. 524, the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act conference report, responding to the opioid addiction crisis:

“This strong bipartisan bill targets the root causes of the opioid crisis from the drug trade to prescription drug abuse, and it offers improvements to prevent opioid addiction and aid people in recovery. I want to thank each and every House conferee for ensuring the bill we have today practically and effectively addresses the challenges facing the American people. As the opioid crisis continues to tear apart communities and break up families, we need the Senate to pass this bill and the President to sign it as soon as possible. The sooner we get this bill signed into law, the sooner we will help save more lives.”

NOTE: The House passed this bill with a bipartisan vote of 407-5.
