WASHNGTON — Ahead of President Biden’s State of the Union address on Thursday night, Speaker Johnson joined Fox News’ America Reports to discuss American decline under President Biden.

Excerpts from the interview below
On the President’s SOTU address & the Laken Riley Act:
“Republicans will not stand for the release of dangerous criminals into our communities. And that’s exactly what the Biden administration has done. Laken is just one of the tragic examples of innocent American citizens who have lost their lives, been brutally and violently attacked by illegal criminals who are roaming our streets because they’ve been allowed in.
“The Laken Riley Act, what it will do is, is ensure that ICE has to arrest and detain criminals who are aliens in the country, and we’ll deport them back to where they came from. And we’re also going to allow the states to sue the federal government for its refusal to enforce federal law.
“We’re doing everything we can as House Republicans and Republicans in Congress to enforce upholding the rule of law and, and sanity frankly, about this policy. We have got to secure that border and the President has the authority right now to do it, John, and he won’t. And we’re going to be highlighting that here all day tomorrow during the State of the Union and all those festivities.”
On the Speaker’s SOTU guests:
“I have a number of guests. We’ve got New York police department officers who were brave – in the sanctuary city – they were attacked by violent illegal aliens that are in the country. We have parents of Gold Star soldiers who lost their lives after the debacle in Afghanistan. We have parents of some children who lost their lives tragically because of illegal aliens in their communities who are committing violent acts. And then we have the parents of Evan Gershkovich, who has been detained in Russia now for a year for simply engaging in, in being a member of the free press, a journalist there.
“We’re going highlight a lot of the atrocities that are being allowed because we are projecting weakness on the world stage right now. That’s what President Biden is, exporting around the world. And that makes the whole world a less safe place. And I think the American people understand that. And that’s one of the reasons that President Trump’s going to do so well in this election.”
