Today, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (CA-20), Chairman Mike Gallagher (WI-08), and members of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party held an event commemorating the 34th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre.
Additional guests participating included Wei Jingsheng and Henry Li, champions of democracy who have spent decades risking their own safety and sacrificing their own security to denounce the human rights atrocities of the CCP.
“It’s important we never forget the horrible atrocities that transpired that day at Tiananmen Square,” McCarthy said. “As lawmakers, we may sometimes have disagreements, but one thing we can all stand behind is freedom everywhere. When we speak about this day, we speak in one voice, and we remember the countless innocent people who were killed. Every year, it is our duty is to remember, remind, and retell their stories.”
