Kate Steinle died because state and local officials refused to enforce America’s immigration laws. 174 Democrats voted against this bill to protect Americans from criminals, and President Obama threatened to veto it. Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) even called Kate’s tragic death “a little thing.” He's wrong. This act of violence in San Francisco was entirely preventable.

The House is acting today to put state and local officials on notice that we’ll no longer allow them to decide how and when to enforce our nation’s laws.

Speaker Boehner discussed the ongoing nuclear talks with Iran, the House's investigation into the terrorist attacks in Benghazi, the Pope’s upcoming address to Congress, and much more.

As scandals and crises engulfed the Obama administration last summer, outside observers began to openly wonder if the president and his team are up to the task of managing the government. A year later, it still looks that way:

This has been the custom of the Senate and the House of Representatives for almost 200 years. We want to go to conference with the Senate

Speaker Boehner pressed Senate Democrats to agree to a conference committee on the House and Senate-passed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bills...

I just think it’s outrageous that Senate Democrats are using Homeland Security funding for blackmail to protect the actions of the president, where the president himself said he didn’t have the authority to do this.

We won this fight in the House, now the fight must be won in the United States Senate.

CLAIM"[I]t’s possible to shape a law that upholds our tradition as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants." (President Obama, State of the Union Address, January 20, 2015)

FACT: President Obama’s unilateral action on immigration has no precedent, and on at least 22 occasions he himself said he did not have the power to do what he eventually did.

FACT: President Obama is not interested in securing the border or enforcing immigration law, and his unilateral action encourages more illegal immigration.
