Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) spoke at a leadership press conference on Congress’s work to fight the opioid addiction epidemic.

Full remarks are below or watch online here.

“I want to thank Nick. In every single district we have many Nicks. But we have some who are in a different stage, some who need to come forward, some who do not make it. That’s why [in] the House you’ll find the committees throughout this month working on this [issue]. You’ll find that we’ll work with the Senate. We’ll come to a bill that helps solve the problem that the President will be willing to sign.

“I want to, one, point out a couple different people—one, Barbara Comstock (VA-10). But I want to thank [Jim] Sensenbrenner (WI-05), Larry Bucshon (IN-08), Susan Brooks (IN-05), Evan Jenkins (WV-03), John Katko (NY-24), Charlie Dent (PA-15), and countless other members. Especially Chairman Upton (MI-06), Chairman Goodlatte (VA-06), and also Chairman Miller (FL-01).

“There’s a couple things that have been focused in this. You have a rise in the epidemic for women, and it’s disproportionally affecting veterans. We want to make sure that whatever we do here that we streamline—that we solve the problem as we go forward.

“I’m very confident that by the end of this month we’ll have the legislation solved, be able to pass it, and move it on the floor in May.”
