Today, the White House announced that their budget (which is still MIA) will never achieve balance. In addition, earlier today Senate Democrats stated their budget priority is to increase taxes, and just like the President’s, their budget will never achieve balance.
White House Says Their Budget Will Not Achieve Balance: “President Obama is unlikely to balance the budget when he releases his budget blueprint next month.” (Justin Sink, “Obama To Seek ‘Fiscally Sustainable Path,’ Not Balanced Budget” The Hill, 3/11/13)
White House Still Doesn’t Know When They Will Release The President’s Budget: “On Monday, Carney again reiterated that the White House did not ‘have a date-certain’ for release of the president’s budget.” (Justin Sink, “Obama To Seek ‘Fiscally Sustainable Path,’ Not Balanced Budget” The Hill, 3/11/13)
Senate Democrats: ‘Our Budget Focuses On Tax Increases, Won’t Balance.” “They have signaled that their budget will do more to raise revenue than to cut spending and that it will not end deficits.” (Erik Wasson & Bernie Becker, “Senate Dems Strain To Get Budget Over Finish Line By Easter Recess,” The Hill, 3/11/13)
Some Of Their Democratic Colleagues Are Expected To Defect On Budget Vote. “Even if Murray gets her bill through committee, it will face more challenges on the Senate floor. A bill that raises taxes but does not cut deeply enough into spending could run into opposition from conservative Democrats, especially those facing reelection in 2014.” (Erik Wasson & Bernie Becker, “Senate Dems Strain To Get Budget Over Finish Line By Easter Recess,” The Hill, 3/11/13)
