Washington, D.C. – House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement after House Democrats voted against H.Res 11 as the Motion To Commit to add language to H. Res. 5, calling on the House to not adjourn until the full government is funded and open again:

“The House’s number-one priority is negotiating an end to the government shutdown. Speaker Pelosi and Leader Hoyer themselves have called on Congress to stay in session until the shutdown is over. But it seems the Democrats are more concerned with rhetoric than results.

“Not three hours into the new Congress, every single Democrat voted against a resolution that would have ensured the House stayed in session until the government is funded and re-opened. They voted down this measure knowing full well that the funding bills they passed without border security would never be agreed to by the Senate, much less the President. The Democrats have offered an unserious solution to a serious problem — and now it seems they want to go home.

“Already the Democrats have given the American people a good reason to doubt their sincerity in negotiating an end to the government shutdown.”
