WASHINGTON — Today, in the Capitol, Speaker Johnson hosted His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya. Following the leaders’ private meeting, Speaker Johnson led a bipartisan forum in the Rayburn Room for members to engage with President Ruto.

During their meeting, Speaker Johnson and President Ruto discussed opportunities for economic investment, shared interests in regional security amid threats from al-Shabab and the Houthi rebels, and the Kenyan government’s efforts to enforce anti-corruption and bribery laws.

Speaker Johnson released the following statement after a series of meetings with President Ruto:

“Today, at the Capitol, I was proud to meet and host President Ruto and the delegation from Nairobi for a series of engagements, including a bipartisan meeting with senior members of Congress. Kenya is America’s closest partner in East Africa, and I appreciated the chance to discuss our shared interests in regional security, good governance, and robust economic opportunity. As we both seek to curb the influence of terrorist threats and rogue regimes, I am hopeful this can be the start of a strong working relationship.”
