House Impeachment Managers will deliver the articles to the Senate Tuesday afternoon

WASHINGTON — Today, Speaker Johnson signed the articles of impeachment for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and renewed calls for Senate Majority Leader Schumer to fulfill his constitutional obligation and hold a public trial.

“The catastrophe at the southern border is the number one issue for the American people,” said Speaker Johnson. “We must hold those who engineered this crisis to full account. While it will force him to grapple with the crisis his party and the President have created, Senator Schumer must hold a public trial on Secretary Mayorkas’ impeachment. Senator Schumer is the only impediment to delivering accountability for the American people. Pursuant to the Constitution, the House demands a trial.”

Background:

  • On February 13, the House voted to impeach Sec. Mayorkas for his refusal to comply with federal immigration laws, fueling the worst border catastrophe in American history.

  • On March 28, Speaker Johnson and GOP impeachment managers sent a letter to Leader Schumer calling on the Senate to expeditiously schedule an impeachment trial.

  • Serving as House GOP impeachment managers: Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, Rep. Andy Biggs, Rep. Ben Cline, Rep. Andrew Garbarino, Rep. Michael Guest, Rep. Harriet Hageman, Rep. Clay Higgins, Rep. Laurel Lee, Rep. August Pfluger, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
